With all the craziness in this world, we can’t help but wonder if God is even paying attention. When we examined the life of Noah (you know, the guy with the ark), we discovered that He is absolutely paying attention and will even intervene. So, now the questions is, “How do we get God to intervene?” Wouldn’t you love it if you could just figure that out? *Here is link to the sluice gate video referenced in Rob’s sermon.

Small Group Questions

1. Share something you really wanted God to give you but now you’re glad He did not. Why did you want that “thing” so badly? Why do you think God did not give it to you?
2. Read Genesis 6:11-7:10. What is most surprising? Is there anything you never read or heard before? If so, does it change the way you interpret the story of Noah?
3. Why do think God chose to work in the way He did (i.e. the flood, an ark, the animals, one family, etc.)? Do you think this was the easiest way for God to handle this situation? What confidence does this give you in Who
4. To yourself, list some areas of your life where you are not currently walking with God. What would it look like if you were to walk with God in those areas? Share one of the items on your list and how you plan to conform it to God’s plan. Pray for one another as you take these steps of faith.

All of us are looking for something we can hold onto in this crazy world. With so much uncertainty all around us, what can we depend on? In the Bible, there is a story of a man named Noah, who amidst a crazy world, found a way to survive and please God at the same time. Join us as we look at how Noah accomplished this and how we can do the same thing in our world.

1. Name some “glimmers of hope” people see in this world that inspires them to keep pressing on? What is an example of a “glimmer of hope” in your world?
2. Take a minute and reflect on this guy, Noah. What do you remember about him? What most impresses you about him?
3. Read Genesis 6:5-11. What jumps out at you most about this passage? Describe how God “feels” in this passage? What gives God hope?
4. If God were to look down on this world and your life, would your life give Him the “glimmer of hope”? If not, why not? If so, why? We have been given the power to impact God, how will you use that power?

Have you ever seen one of those guys who stands on street corners with signs reading something like, “You are going to burn in hell!”? When I see that I wonder if I have missed something because it doesn’t seem to reflect the God I read about in the Bible. If that’s not how the Bible describes the preferred behaviors of His followers, then what exactly are we supposed to be doing? What is the spirit we are challenged by God to convey? God didn’t leave us hanging and has given us plain simple answers.

1. What behaviors of so-called “Christians” are the most offensive and most preposterous in your opinion? How do these behaviors differ with what you see God revealing in the Bible? Have you ever been negatively affected by one of these behaviors? Please share.
2. Read Ephesians 4:25-32. In your opinion, which negative action listed in this passage is most detrimental to people? Why? What does it look like when someone is behaving in this negative way? How are the people on the other side of this negative action impacted?
3. On the positive side, which of the actions Paul encourages followers of Christ to adhere to are the most difficult for you? Why? Do you find that “malice” creeps into your heart? When you do feel “malice” in your heart, to what is it usually a reaction?
4. What steps can you take to eliminate malice from your life? Where should you redirect your anger to instead of at people? Please take time to pray for one another as you seek to live out a life that reflects Jesus’ view of people.
