A Grassroots Movement

buildout plans-LOver 30 years ago, people started praying for a church to begin in Mukwonago that would reach out to people who are far from God. Over the years, a grassroots movement began amongst families from Elmbrook Church (Brookfield, WI). Some of them began to gather in homes to pray that God would start a new church in Mukwonago.

As the council of Elders at Elmbrook Church listened to this desire, looked at the area, and listened to God, they decided to go forward with the idea. Brooklife would become the 12th daughter or granddaughter church of Elmbrook. (Although at that time, Brooklife did not have an official name and was affectionately called “Mukbrook”).

In 2007, the elders asked Jason and Heather Webb to lead the new church plant initiative. On April 29, 2007, people came together for the first time at Elmbrook Church to dream of what God could do through a new church in nearby Mukwonago. 167 people showed up! Over the next 9 months, a launch team met together at Mukwonago High School on Sunday nights to form the foundation for this new church. They started to reach out into the community through service projects and formed a tight community through house groups.

During those 9 months, Matt Erickson (Associate Pastor) and Julie Scheibe (KidLife Pastor) joined Jason (Lead Pastor) and Heather (Pastor of Community Life) on the pastoral staff. On January 6, 2008, Brooklife’s doors officially opened to the public at Clarendon Avenue Elementary School. God blew us away that first Sunday as hundreds of people poured through the doors to see what was happening during the worship service. On March 16, 2008, Brooklife added a second worship service to allow it to grow.

From day one, God performed many miracles. The staff continued to grow, many people returned to faith or found faith for the first time, house groups multiplied, and the kids and students ministries grew rapidly.

In Spring 2009, Brooklife launched imagine, a faith journey to raise the needed finances to buy land and build a multi-purpose facility for the community and the church. Part of the old-Walmart on Hwy 83 (just off I-43) became available and we began an extensive renovation project of 41,000 square feet.  This new space includes a 700 seat auditorium, dynamic children’s wing, great student space, and community areas and classrooms for adults.

In July 2011 we moved into our permanent home. We saw significant growth and greater impact in the community. Yet we believed that God was asking more of us.

So in early 2012 we launched a new generosity initiative called 212.  As a result we were able to expand our ministries, launch new local and global initiatives, and start summer camps for kids called Camp Venture.  Part of the 212 initiative was to also start new churches. In October 2012, Brooklife launched its first church plant: Lakepoint Church in Muskego.

The Next Chapter

In July 2014, our founding pastor Jason Webb along with his wife Heather and their family followed God’s calling to be the lead pastor of Elmbrook Church, the church that originally started Brooklife.

After several months of prayer and deliberation, our Elders called our new Lead Pastor, Rob Pilant. Rob, along with his wife Rachel and their family joined our church in November of 2014. We are so excited to have them as part of the family and we know that God has amazing things planned for Brooklife.

Come join us in the ongoing story of Brooklife Church!
